Welcome

My name is Julia Leavitt and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and therapist working in California. I offer virtual therapy services and consulting services for practitioners looking to create support programs for adolescents and young adults (AYAs), and adults.

Seeking Support

If you’ve found yourself on my website, it’s likely you’ve received a diagnosis of cancer or are experiencing a major life transition and are looking for help navigating the changes you face. I want to applaud you for taking the brave step of seeking support.

    My Approach

For over a decade I have supported individuals and their support systems navigate the distress and challenges of a cancer diagnosis or major life transition, both in hospital and outpatient clinic settings. First and foremost, I view therapy as a partnership. I endeavor to meet my clients where they are and provide a safe environment for them to process their emotions as they embark on their unique path of self-discovery.

    My Specialties

Though I specialize in working with AYAs and adults facing cancer, I have extensive experience working on issues of:

    • Self-esteem
    • Anxiety
    • Depression
    • Anticipatory Grief
    • Bereavement
    • Women's Health
    • Reproductive Health

If you’ve found yourself confronted by any of these challenges, I’d love to hear from you to see if I might be the right fit.

    My Experience

My career has helped me develop a unique skillset that I believe best serves AYAs and adults seeking longer-term therapy.

After completing my master’s in social work at New York University, I began my career in a large hospital in the heart of New York City providing support to children with cancer and their families. During my time in NYC, I also received a Post Masters Certificate from NYU in End-of-Life Care and Bereavement.
In the fall of 2016, I ventured West, where I joined the talented team of psychotherapists at Cedars-Sinai’s Samuel Oschin Cancer Center. There, I provided therapy to children and adults with cancer, and it was during this time that I became a Board-Certified Oncology Social Worker. I also explored the often-under-discussed subject of oncofertilty, participating in the Enriching Communication Skills for Health Professionals in Oncofertility (ECHO) Program.
In 2019, I joined UCLA Health, creating a robust Support Program for AYAs, consisting of monthly support groups, individual therapy, oncofertility counseling, patient and provider education.
In addition to my private practice and consulting work, I continue to run AYA support groups through Cancer Support Community Los Angeles, as well as present at National Oncology conferences.
